A Sweet and Simple Welcome: Baby Bowen

Family, Newborn, Toddler

December 1, 2025

I knew this session with the Gordon family would be special, because I’ve gotten to see them through so many milestones. Emory was all smiles, and big brother Briggs was full of his own little charm. But the star of the day was baby Bowen, who stayed cozy and sleepy through the whole session. It’s always such an honor to photograph families during these early days, and I was so thankful to capture this sweet time for them.

One of my favorite things to learn is how babies get their names. Bowen’s name has the kind of meaning that makes your heart melt. Ashley shared, “We named him using the same initials as the person he is named after, so my father-in-law is Brian Scott Gordon, and he is Bowen Scott Gordon.” It’s such a thoughtful way to honor someone special, and it made this session feel even more meaningful.

Bowen’s birth story was just as sweet. After two kids, this one surprised them in the best way. Ashley said, “Out of all three pregnancies and deliveries he was the most seamless! He came out fast, zero complications, and was the sweetest sleepy baby!” Hearing that made me smile, because that calm and peaceful energy showed up in every photo we took.

I also loved hearing how they shared the news with family and friends. Since baby number three was a surprise, they told everyone with a laugh, saying, “This is the last one seriously this time.” Their loved ones were just as shocked as they were, and it’s such a fun part of their story. And during the pregnancy? Ashley had one serious craving- peanut butter! Honestly, that feels like the perfect craving for a busy mom.

When I asked who Bowen looks like, she didn’t hesitate- “He’s my twin, mom’s little look-a-like.” And she’s right; he has that same sweet softness and calm presence she carries.

One of the best parts of writing these posts is hearing what families love most about parenting. Ashley said, “Watching them grow and learn new things! Especially when they have siblings to watch! Their bond is amazing at such a young age!” During the session, I could see that bond so clearly. Emory and Briggs looked at Bowen with so much love, and it felt like they already understood their big sister/brother roles.

Parenthood is full of surprises too, and Ashley put it perfectly: “Literally expect the unexpected! Just when you think you have it figured out because you have multiple children, the last one will throw you a curve and still teach you so many new things.” It’s such an honest and real way to describe life with kids, and it made me appreciate this family even more.

As the session wrapped up, I felt so grateful to be part of this moment. Bowen’s calm sweetness, the toddler energy, and the love between Brock and Ashley made the whole day feel warm and easy. Thank you, Gordon family, for letting me capture this chapter in your story. I can’t wait to watch your sweet family grow.
