Let’s talk about what really happens if your baby doesn’t sleep during their newborn photos, and why it’s not something to stress about.
First Things First: This Is Totally Normal
Newborns are brand new humans. They don’t follow schedules. Some babies snooze the entire session like champs. Others want to check out everything going on. Both are completely normal.
I plan every newborn session knowing that babies are in charge. Not the clock. Not the pose list. Not me. 😉
The Sweet Surprise of Awake Shots
Believe it or not, awake photos can be beautiful.
Those wide eyes?
The tiny stretches?
The curious little looks?
They tell part of your baby’s story.
Awake shots often feel very real and very them. Parents are sometimes surprised to find that these end up being their favorite images because they show personality right from the start.
What We Might Miss If Baby Doesn’t Sleep
Some classic newborn poses do require a deep, cozy sleep. If your baby stays awake, we may not get every single pose you see on my website.
That’s okay.
When babies are awake, we focus more on:
- Wrapped poses (these feel snug and safe)
- Natural positions
- Simple setups that keep baby comfortable
Wrapped shots are perfect for awake babies because they help baby feel secure—and they photograph beautifully no matter what.
My Superpower: Patience 🤍
Here’s the part I want you to hear most clearly.
I am not rushed.
I will:
- Rock
- Shush
- Feed breaks
- Change diapers
- Walk
- Snuggle
- Wait
Sometimes babies fall asleep right away. Sometimes it takes time. Either way, I move at your baby’s pace.
Your job is not to stress.
Your job is just to love on your baby.
