Dothan Engagement Photos
What makes a great engagement session? I’m sharing some of my best tips for Dothan engagement photos including location inspiration! When you book a wedding photography package with me, you receive a complimentary engagement session. I find this is a great way to break the ice and get to know each other before the higher stress wedding day. You can use these photos for your save the dates, social media announcements, or wedding decor as well!
Tip #1: Location Location Location!
One of the first things we’ll do when planning your Dothan engagement photos is to decide on a location. Depending on the vibe you want for your photos, I’ll offer several suggestions. Here’s a few of my favorites: Dothan Botanical Gardens (www.dabg.com). This location offers a little bit of everything from a sheltered greenhouse to various in season florals to a cute gazebo and wedding garden. Downtown! There’s something about adorable local shops and bricked buildings that make for a unique take on engagement photos. Lakefront! If you’re up for driving over to Ozark, AL there’s a great lake there with grassy open areas, mossy trees, and wooden boardwalks. A golden grassy field! This one is more fall/winter specific and the exact location depends on the time of year, but if you want rustic vibes, it’s one of my favorites.

Dothan engagement photos tip #2: time of day
This one is going to be short and sweet. I will always recommend golden hour (about an hour before sunset). You avoid harsh shadows, and hopefully we get a great sky too. However, I know it isn’t always possible. If you have to schedule engagement photos earlier in the day, I recommend an area like downtown or an enclosed greenhouse at the botanical gardens. I’ll want to pose you in shady areas so no one is squinting or sweating!

Dothan engagement photos tips 3 & 4:
My final two tips go hand in hand. What to wear for your Dothan engagement photos and what about props? As far as what to wear, my favorite suggestion is a long flowy dress. It doesn’t have to white. Jewel tones can be beautiful! www.balticborn.com or www.joyfolie.com both have amazing options and run sales frequently. If you want to shop in person, there’s a great little boutique in Enterprise, AL: Willow Jade Boutique. The long dress will keep you comfortable and add some eye catching movement to your photos. If you want something more casual, consider dark jeans and an oversized sweater. Try to keep patterns to a minimum as they can be distracting in photos. Depending on what location you chose for your Dothan engagement photos, you may need to wear flats (or bring the heels and change into them once you’re in place!).
As far as props go, generally you don’t need to bring anything. Obviously you’ll want to wear your engagement ring! I’ve also had couples bring a letterboard with their wedding date. If you have any furbabies, I can recommend a few pet friendly locations too!
